Introduction: the conceptual foundation
In its ongoing efforts to improve teaching practices at TAU, the Center for Teaching Advancement relies upon the experience and knowledge accumulated at many well-established university teaching centers worldwide, as well as the latest conceptions of the professional community, comprising three complementary goals:
Advancing the perception of Academic Teaching as a profession
Enhancing university policymakers' understanding that teaching is an important and inherent part of the faculty's role, and that Academic Teaching is a discipline in and of itself
Developing the perception of the Advancement of Academic Teaching as a profession
Bolstering the awareness that the Advancement of Academic Teaching is a discipline in itself, with suitably trained professionals who provide instruction and consultation, conduct research, hold discussions, and continually develop knowledge in their field of expertise
Advancing the Scholarship of Teaching
Developing the approach that regards teaching as an ongoing process of improvement, with each faculty member fully responsible for the quality and results of his/her teaching performance
